PRESS RELEASE – Prime Minister and Minister for  Finance and Economic Affairs, Hon. Dr. Kenny D. Anthony, has taken issue with the Leader of the United Worker’s Party, Allen Chastanet, over recent statements made in his  so-called weekly address.

According to the Prime Minister, “Mr. Chastanet’s description of me as “dishonest and delusional” is actually an attack on the integrity and professionalism of all the public officers who monitor our economy and provide data on the economy’s performance. This is really shameful.

He repudiates the figures prepared by these professionals on the economy but yet when it suits him he quotes other figures also prepared by these same individuals.”

The Prime Minister added, “I can understand the deep disappointment that Allen Chastanet feels about the recovery of Saint Lucia’s economy. After all, for weeks he has paraded at home and abroad at every opportunity he gets, to announce that the economy of Saint Lucia is going nowhere. The recent news is like a fishbone in his throat. But this is no longer the time for his diet of platitudes. He says he has a plan to resolve unemployment, bring investment, but rather ominously, cut expenditure. All we hear about are plans and plans and plans. But we are yet to hear the details of a single one of these plans.

What are his plans to cut expenditure? He must tell the people of Saint Lucia now! How many civil servants does he propose to send home? Which services to the people of Saint Lucia does he plan to cut? Will he end the programme to care for the elderly? Will he end NICE and STEP?” Which jobs does he intend to terminate? Will it be another round of victimization like the Tourism Hostesses in Soufriere?”

The Prime Minister concluded, “It is now clear to all who have examined his academic credentials that Allen Chastanet is not an economist. The records will also show that almost every single pronouncement he has made on the economy is false or misleading. He has proven that he has no understanding of how the economy works, or what is needed to correct the errors of his past Government. I have never claimed to be an economist, but at least I have had the experience of managing this economy over several years, through challenging times and now again, through a period of renewed stability.”

“The people of Saint Lucia must ensure that the management of this economy does not fall in the hands of Chastanet especially after this Government has brought it back from the brink of collapse.”

  6. This sounded more like a political advertisement than a press release from the office of the Prime Minister. And it sounds more like the childish banter of the Press Secretary.

  7. Kenny Anthony is delusional plain blank... To be saying that unemployment was at 13 % when you left office says a lot about your mental faculty. You need to go rest mr pm. Your Time has passed. Chas is making a mockery out of you and your incompetent flock

  8. St Lucia, the 5th slowest economy in the world. Oh yeah the PM tried to argue that the world Bank was wrong about this fact. What a joke this guy is. Wish elections were tomorrow so we could all vote this lunatic outta office.

  13. Basically the government in stlucia spends more than it takes in. Therefore has huge debts. To combat this the taxes and vat have been increased. Everyone knows that higher taxes slows down the exonomy. So now the government makes a "nice step" this only compounds the problem. Theres 3 choices and the repocussians.
    1. Double taxes right away.
    2. Cut spending. Lay offs
    3. Increase forign investment
All will have there effects. A combination of all three will have to be done.

But to say the econmy has a growth is crazy. Ask the banks if any money is flowing around or look at the roads and see how many goods vehiciles are runnin around.

Furthermore we have 4 half hospitals. 2 airports that need repair and 2 unccupied government buildings. This cant help the ecconomy.

Chastnet needs to explain this to the public before elections and ask the public to work with him on recovery even if it means laying off people. Because some drastic changes have to be made which many people wont like.

  14. Kenny pay Chou right now he in a position to talk and tell us what he has planned at least he's addressing the issues and unemployment is our biggest issue... Udk what it feels like to be broke and no job so I have to go steal to survive... Obama visited a prison, do u kno where bordelais is? Instead on trying to play smart man and tellin is abt his academic credentials don't even tell us SHOW us what u doing/will do! Sad to say from a nuetral perspective only considering what's best for our country chastnet sounds pretty genuine and I think he deserves a try I prefer to give a man a try and he fails of a man who continuously fails... Tings hard in the country boss! I am self employed an believe me at times I does be broke! Do u kno how that feels Kenny!? U in the hot seat just cool it out with action over word! My fellow st Lucian's I'm not voting but please give me chastnet a chance... #kennygottago

  16. This does not even sound like the Prime Minister. Sounds more like something from the desk of the Prime Minister's female attack dog!

    (37)(5)
    • You took the words right out of my mouth.....sounds like drama.

      (3)(1)
    • THE QUESTION IS WHAT IS ALLEN GOING TO DO BETTER?? IF THIS MAN CAN'T UNDERSTAND ECONOMICS THEN HOW IS HE GOING TO MAKE ECONOMICS DECISION TO PUT US IN A BETTER PLACE. MR. CHAS STOP REGURGITATING STATS AND TELL US WHAT YOU GOING TO DO BETTER AND HOW ARE YOU GOING TO ACHIEVE THIS!!! BTW IF TOURISM IS SO BAD IN THIS COUNTRY WHY NOT SHARE WITH THE PUBLIC THE PERFORMANCE OF YOUR VERY OWN ESTABLISHMENT BECAUSE FORM THE LOOKS OF THINGS IT IS DOING VERY WELL. IS THAT BECAUSE OF THE ECONOMY OR YOUR ECONOMICS SKILLS!

      (4)(23)
  17. When will the Prime Minister stop promoting Maypwi and Movaylang politics - As a 'statesman' he should focus on the higher values on truth. peace, love and Unity. Educate the public on the substance and the implications on growth and nation building. Name calling and things of that sort only incite the lesser statesman to follow his example and do the same.
Come on PM let's restore love and peace in Lucialand.

    (33)(5)
    • Allowing Chas to deceive the public is the worse thing he could let happen. STOP FOR A QUICK SECOND AND THINK IS THE COUNTRY REALLY AS BAD AS CHAS CONTINUALLY PARADES IT TO BE???? AS A PROUD SAINT LUCIA I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN HIS APPROACH!!!!

      (1)(22)
  18. Same old crap. I am not ashamed to state that intend to vote lpm this time or 2nd option stay home.

    (18)(2)
  19. Oh Christ! The PM has the gall to ever try to defend statistics like 0.8 % growth that may very well be in the realm of a statistical error?

Boy am I embarrassed. Is there any comprehension of this dismal economic performance when juxtaposed against the man's economic blindspot regarding the looming increases in interest payments for the long history of the indisciplined squandamania and risible gross financial errors of taking out of new loans, the equivalent of "robbing Peter to pay Paul", just to pay down on previous loans? Did the man's comprehension of the economic situation allow him to peer through the smokescreen in that report indicating that growth-based expenditure will be determined by the quantum of interest payments and that tourism's performance contribution to national income does not appear rosy? Does this man understand that if your income inflows have to be used to pay down new and existing loans, the opportunity cost is expenditure for development? Does this man understand thar the transfer of income or from loanable funds to sectors in the economy with little or no multiplier is highly dysfunctional? If you take out even more loans beyond what we have already committed ourselves to and that those are denominated in foreign currency, that this pushes the country further in a downward spiral? With the VAT having placed the GDP in contractual mode, the debt-to-GDP position worsens. Does this know-it-all lawyer understand any of that? Or are his economic advisors just mere students of economic history or economic statistics?

The public servants were not elected to tell the nation the unvarnished truth. Whether or not he continues to dodge this issue, for God's and our children's sake, this nation is dire need of someone since Associated Statehood, someone who will tell us the truth. For once

If this man cannot understand the transmission process associated with borrowing, sovereign debt, loans, interest payments and the contraction of the economy, he should hurry out of the Ministry of Finance in great haste. Dammit!

    (62)(6)
    • Highlighting stats that only benefit your agenda is also wrong on both sides I do hope you remain impartial and criticize Mr. Chas on it as well. He seems to have a problem understanding economic statistics and quick to cry foul play when the DOS or any one corrects. My Question is Can Allen Chastnet really do better for this country??? I see Absolutely no evidence of that !!!!!

      (5)(28)
      • You could have asked one million questions, but you chose to ask just one. Yet it is the wrong question. You are still looking and thinking like our slave grandparents for a white saviour as they chose French slave masters instead of English slave masters. Did you notice? They chose like we are going to in the next election, to chose another set from party insiders and outsiders. Since we cannot find whites, we are going to settle for a proxy for a white slave master. Hooray to all our patriotic idiots. Saint Lucia they tell me is idiot country.

        (7)(1)
  20. Are you an economist, better yet , Are you a constitutional lawyer.

Fire to all politicians especially these two retards, lucians dont get drawn into these idiots pillow fight ................. To them its all a game .................... Abubakar has the right way dealing idiotic politicians....................

    (10)(3)
  21. To be honest im so disgusted by these politicians.I really am fed up with all their trickery and BS* To me they all are the same and they all can go to hell! #notrustnovote.

    (17)(1)
  22. A very childish Press Release. The majority will believe Chastanet, because the people on the ground is not feeling what you are claiming. If there is an improvement in GDP its because you are reaping off money out of the pockets of the people (which we can't afford) just to make you look good as PM, whiles we are suffering. The information he gave on tourism in the Caribbean is official and is available on line. He never said it was miss leading. He was saying that it should be better. We can't stand this shit. If your report on the economy was "pissing in our eye and calling it rain". This Press Release is "shitting in our mouth and calling it chocolate".

    (37)(7)
  23. I'm SO SICK AND TIRED OF THESE POLITRICKSTORS ARGUING LIKE A BUNCH OF......... I DON'T EVEN KNOW.... THIS CRAP IS "PRESS RELEASE"?????? OR IS IT STRESS RELEASE FOR KEN AN TOE.... I DON'T WANT TO HEAR KENNY OR ALLEN CRY ABOUT WHAT ONE THINKS ABOUT THE OTHER...... WOOOOOOIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!

TAKE OUR LITTLE COUNTRY OUT OF THE MESS ITS IN WITH ALL THAT SHIT!!!!
I AM NOT COMPARING OUR SITUATION TO WHAT'S GOING ON IN PLACES LIKE SYRIA BUT SOON THAT'S WHAT IT WILL COME DOWN TO...ST.LUCIANS DESPERATELLY TRYING TO FLEE THIS COUNTRY AND IT HAS ALREADY STARTED!!
    BETTER DAYS MY ASSSSSSSSSS!!!
ALL YOU TRICKSTER CARE ABOUT IS HOW MUCH YOU ALL CAN STEAL FROM US BEFORE YOUR TERM IS UP...THEN GO LIVE OUT OF THE COUNTRY WHEN THEY BOOT YOUR PATHETIC,WORTHLESS ASSES OUT!!

NOW TAKE THAT TO THE BANK MOFOS!!!

    (26)(1)
  24. Hey Mr. Prime Minister no one cares that you felt insulted. How about addressing the nation's increasing crime level. Or unemployment, or the cost of education? How about doing something. Quick to defend themselves because they are their own priority while we all sit there being ignored. SMH

    (47)(7)
  25. shut your face.
