The “15 years Cheers!” walk seeks to raise the consciousness of St. Lucians to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
General Manager of Peter and Company Wayne Theobalds said it has been 15 wonderful years for the Pinehill Fun Walk and explained that it has grown from strength to strength. He noted however that this has only been possible through the support of participants and sponsors.
Theobalds stated that this walk has always been centered on promoting healthy lifestyles and it is hoped that the walk will help to motivate persons, to join and to adapt an approach that promotes healthy living.
Pinehill Brand Manager, Shari Popo, told the gathering at the Sandals Regency, that “our nation appears to be plagued by several chronic and progressive conditions that can be prevented or managed through various active and healthy life changes. We therefore challenge our walkers to keep walking through the year and not just during the week of Pinehill fun walk.”
According to Popo, the annual event will be held on Sunday, August 17, 2014 and will start at 6:30 a.m. near the Saab Playing Field, Vigie, Castries, and will continue along the John Compton Highway, in to Gros Islet, and conclude at the Pigeon Island National Park. Participants will be treated to a light breakfast, along with a health, wellness and fitness fair which will be also be hosted at Pigeon point. Health associations, nutritionists, local spas and gyms will be participating in the fair.
Popo said that the Pinehill company has also included a new incentive this year specifically for kids, by way of a FUNtastic fitness zone, sponsored by Subway. She explained that the aim of this activity is also to promote healthy and active lifestyles, but from an early age.
Christy Butcher, an official from the Ministry of Health, in her remarks, said that she is happy to see corporate St. Lucia playing its part in the fight against Non Communicable Diseases NCDs.
Radio Caribbean International, DIGICEL 4G, Paradise water, Virgin Atlantic, Flow, Scotia Bank, Seven Seas, Subway, Travel and Leisure Centre, Excel Signs and Landmark Events have joined with Pinehill to host the event.
Admission to the Pinehill Funwalk is $20 and $15 if you sign up with a company. Interested person can get registered at Peter and Company Ltd, Cul De Sac, Wet and Cold Express, Mongiraud Street, Wet and Cold Express, Clarke St Vieux Fort and Radio Caribbean International, Sans Souci.
Several prizes will be up for grabs at this year’s Funwalk.
The Pinehill Company is urging, families, co– workers, sporting organisations, fitness clubs, community and social groups to participate.
