Former Miss Gros Islet Carnival contestant Janel Pierre, who was found dead in a house in Gros Islet on the evening of Tuesday, September 23, will be laid to rest on Saturday, October 4 with her unborn child.

The funeral service is scheduled to take place at the La Clery Catholic Church in La Clery, Castries at 2 p.m.

The Miss Gros Islet Carnival Queen Facebook page posted that family and close friends have organised turquoise t-shirts for dancers, as well as supporters and friends.

According to the post, persons can wear a touch of green, turquoise or aquamarine to show their love and respect for Pierre at the funeral. These colours were some of her favourites.

Pierre, 27, who was eight months pregnant, was discovered by her mother around 7 p.m. on the floor of their apartment in Reduit on September 23.

Medical officials attending to the scene said Pierre and her unborn male child appeared to have been dead before the discovery. Relatives said Pierre showed no signs of prior illness and had visited a doctor the day before her death.

A post mortem examination revealed that she died from cardio/respiratory failure as a result of pulmonary embolism – a condition in which one or more pulmonary arteries in the lungs become blocked.

Pierre, representing Dilly’s Supermarket, won first runner-up, best performing talent and best evening wear in the 2013 Miss Gros Islet Pageant. She was also an early childhood educator at Montessori Centre and member of a local dance group.
