(St. Lucia News Online) — Saint Lucia’s Opposition Leader Philip J. Pierre has congratulated US President-elect Joe Biden and his Vice President-elect Kamala D. Harris following the conclusion of the recent US elections.

Pierre said in particular that the “victory resonates with the people of the Caribbean, recognizing that Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris is the daughter of a Jamaican immigrant, the first woman and person of color to be elected to one of the highest offices in the USA and the world”.

Biden was elected 46th president of the US after he reached the 270 votes needed to secure a majority in the electoral college.

Here is Pierre’s full statement from his official Facebook page: “Saint Lucians at home and around the world congratulate Joseph R. Biden and Kamala D. Harris on being elected to serve respectively as the President and Vice President of the United States of America (USA).

“As the world continues to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, we are comforted in the leadership of the President-Elect and Vice President-Elect to decelerate the spread of the virus in the USA which is a global tourism hub and primary source market for Saint Lucia.

“More specifically, this victory resonates with the people of the Caribbean, recognizing that Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris is the daughter of a Jamaican immigrant, the first woman and person of color to be elected to one of the highest offices in the USA and the world.

“Saint Lucia Labour Party recognizes the importance of the USA’s bilateral relationship with Saint Lucia and the Caribbean and the integral role the USA will play in the recovery of the global economy.”
