Delegates of the United Workers Party (UWP) are flowing into the auditorium of the Gros Islet Secondary School for the party’s 39th Annual Convention.
While the event officially commenced at 9:00 a.m the voting only began at around 11:30 a.m. The results will be delivered at the end of the day’s proceedings.
Delegates from distant constituencies arrived the earliest and have been seated since this morning.
Party officials also arrived early to ensure that the voting process commenced on time.
Allen Chastanet, Guy Joseph, Arsne James and Ezechiel Joseph were among those who arrived early, and were seen among the delegates.
Close to 2:00 p.m. Allen Chastanet and his wife entered the auditorium to loud cheers and applause.
They were joined by other senior executive members of the UWP, members of the diplomatic corp and other guests.
The programme will start with welcoming remarks by the incumbent Chairman Ezechiel Joseph, followed by cultural performances and reciting of the national anthem.
It will continue with presentations of written reports, address by Chastanet, adoption of motions or resolutions and the credential committee report.
This will be followed by a special address guest speaker – former Prime Minister of SVG. Sir James Mitchel.
The results will be announced at the end of the convention.
