PRESS RELEASE – Four in a row. That was the tally of victories for Saint Lucia’s national under -15 cricket team following the completion of the annual Windward Islands Cricket tournament which ended recently in Grenada.
The team returned home Wednesday evening to a VIP reception hosted by the Department of Youth Development and Sports. Among the welcoming party was the Permanent Secretary in the Department of Youth Development and Sports, Donovan Williams.
Williams said: “First and foremost I want to congratulate you for being able to help Saint Lucia make that statement that we are are a champions nation, we will always be competitive and whenever we compete we will always have an opportunity to win . So I want to thank you for showing us as Saint Lucians that this continues to be what we are about. That’s important. I think you have shown us and other sporting disciplines, the formula for success.”
Captain of the the team, Keygan Arnold, who has also been named captain of the Windward islands under-15 cricket team to compete in this year’s West Indies under-15 cricket tournament, encouraged his players to continue striving for excellence.
Arnold said: “This year the team we was much more supportive to each other. we put in a lot more effort in. Winning as a captain and winning as a regular player, it’s a lot better feeling because you put your full efforts and you reap the rewards that you’re given and those who have have made Windwards should try harder to win the West Indies tournament. Those who did not make it hard luck, that’s not the end of your career, you can still keep on trying harder and harder and make the West Indies team even before those who made Windwards.”
The champion team comprised Keegan Arnold – captain, Akeem Auguste, Ephron Charles, Denzil Albert, Jaden Elibox, Geehan Boodha, Zidane Arthur, Ryan Goodman, Udel Preville, Tyron Theodore, Kaleb Thomas, Mc Kenny Clarke and Sky LaFeuille. The team was coached by former West Indies under-23 captain John Eugene and managed by Patrick Thomas.
