Emmanuel Hercules Cotter MBE, who was Saint Lucia’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom from 1998 – 2007, was laid to rest on Wednesday, Oct. 1.

Cotter passed away on Sept. 5 in London.

In a statement released last week, Prime Minister Dr. Kenny D. Anthony as a “deeply patriotic Saint Lucian” who exhibited a strong sense of duty in carrying out his functions.

Dr. Anthony said: “The late High Commissioner represented Saint Lucia with a high degree of commitment throughout his diplomatic tenure. He enhanced bilateral relations with the United Kingdom and strengthened the traditional bonds of friendship between the two countries. H.E. Cotter contributed immensely to Saint Lucia’s diaspora community in the United Kingdom as Head of Mission and through his various charitable works.

“The development of Caribbean nationals in the UK was also a cause close to his heart and he worked assiduously with a number of organisations to this end. In honour of his outstanding service to the community, he was awarded an MBE for facilitating economic development and entrepreneurship in inner city communities in the UK. To those who knew him and worked with him, he was a deeply patriotic Saint Lucian.”

    • Ms. Overseas,

I dont wish to be rude but I do hope you are one of the smart ones. If you please join the power on the next election. I personally will back you up. I doubt Kenny got his title by mistake. So be mindful what you say. I am not saying I will agree with all he say and do but I wont say he is stupid either. Please advise better or wiser.

  4. The Question is what is in the heart of teh Hon. Kenny D. Anthony when it comes to his St. Lucians knowing he holds the position of Prime Minister which is like a Father in the home. Is that how he treat his children (Ministers,MP, those in Authority, SLP Members, Citizens of St. Lucia, His Family) to love and care for others. The Question truly is why are we St. Lucians not opening our eyes to bring change to our country for the next generations to come. This is bad for the youth to apply to their lifestyle. The Lord is the judge and this is where I have placed him. Let us all take this serious and pray to the Lord about it in our closet and wait patiently for our rewards from the Lord. Ask in Jesus' name.

    • No excuse, Anonymous. In London, you can either Hire a suit for the day, quite cheaply; or buy one even cheaper.
And as I recall, even Ernest Hillaire, the High Commissioner did not attend. He sent Verne Augustin, his Vice-Consul instead.
      Shameful.

  6. A bunch of hypocrites in the SLP government. None of them attended my uncle's funeral. I sent those pictures to SNO. When Chavez died,Kenny attended his funeral, but a true son of the soil and a man who worked under his leadership,a man he had so many good things to say about him, never attended. Instead he was seen laying a wreath on his deceased mother's tomb. He could have sent at least a minister to represent St. Lucia. SHAME on you Kenny and your government. Not even Hillaire who took over my uncle's position as High Commissioner did not attend. He lives in England. Anyway my uncle is gone and yes better days are coming hypocrites.

    • Ms. Sherly,

I would feel the same if I was you but I am a little confused as some said he went and you said he didnt. If he did not then that is really not nice. I am very far away but if he had asked me to represent I would have paid my own way and go. I am very sorry Sherly and I know you will loose respect if there was no one from our government present. Lets look at the bright side, I honestly did not know of your uncle but they sure published like they were all involved in his burial. I heart goes out to your family. Learn a lesson from that, dont prepare your funeral as your friends may never attend. Thats life and trust me your uncle knew who they are and you will learn better soon.

  7. Ernest Hilaire is on duty and may not always be able to attend every important function/activity/meeting etc. It does not mean his thoughts were not with the family. Other London dignitaries and members of the high commissioners office represented him in full force. Give him a break, he is one individual.
