IMG-20150726-WA006Residents in Vieux Fort town did not waste time in battling a house fire that broke out at around 3 p.m. and rapidly spread to other houses.

Photos obtained by St. Lucia News Online (SNO) showed five men battling the fire from rooftops with a long hose.

One eyewitness told SNO that the residents realised that the firemen were experiencing difficulty and gave even more assistance with whatever water supply they could get their hands on. The civilians also did most of the clean up, according to eyewitnesses.

“The civilians did a good job,” the eyewitness said. “Something had to be done. Everyone had to help because more houses were burning up.”

Despite the valiant effort of the residents and firemen, reports are that at least four houses were destroyed/damaged.

The Vieux-Fort Fire Station received the report of the fire at 3:19 p.m. and dispatched two fire engines.

It is not yet clear if anyone was injured in the massive blaze.
