PRESS RELEASE – While some are obsessed with who will emerge as the political leader of the United Workers Party (UWP) this weekend, the Lucian People’s Movement (LPM)-endorsed candidate for Micoud South, Mr. Phillip Jn Baptiste, has categorically stated that he has absolutely no interest in the outcome.

According to Jn Baptiste, whether the UWP decides to retain Allen Chastanet as its leader or opts for new leadership in the person of Claudius Preville does not in any way erase the fact that, after more than 50 years of representation, the UWP has done very little to improve the lives of the people of Micoud South.

Therefore, based on the UWP’s long and questionable political history of demanding loyalty from the people of Micoud South even as the party continuously neglects them at the end of every election cycle, Jn Baptiste insists that his focus will remain on advocating for a better quality of life for the people of his community.

It is imperative, says Jn Baptiste, that Micoud South guard against the old party apparatus that seeks to engineer a cosmetic show of “new” leadership while it has largely failed to address the mounting levels of unemployment and social decay in a community that has served as the bedrock of the UWP’s existence.

  2. I must first apologise profusely to all my fellow St Lucians. It is not my intention to insult anyone's intelligence, but isn't it time you scrutinise and carry out checks on those who want to put themselves forward as your representatives? Frankly I would embarrassed if some of those so called politicians were to represent St Lucia overseas.

    • And those in your party and even in the government don't?
We like to praise those we like because they are in our party and valify those we don't like because they are not of our party. Grow Up. Choops!

    • Perhaps you should take issue with the colonial electorial laws that are still on the books. Compton did not change it, Kenny did not change and it is still there? LPM have nothing to do with symbols. Ever wonder why we electricity and a SLP and UWP still have a need for a flambeau and Etwol??
I am not here to make a case for any party put its wise to educate ourselves about our system.

      • Wow! Not all of us are idiots! A symbol tells, communicates, and telegraphs many things. It is a brand image.

That said, the fact that OUR COLONIAL SYSTEM OF LAWS forced LPM to take it or leave it, a SAW as its symbol, REFLECTS the asinine acceptance of those who we call leaders -- past and present -- as 'progressive thinkers'.

We, as a so-called independent country are full of jackasses for politicians, whose main aim is to just jockey for TITLES and EASY PENSIONS, whilst screwing up the entire economy and our future. Take for instance the support for the pay increase that messed up the debt-to-GDP ratio, making borrowing harder to get and to pay for.

Symbolically, the 'flambeau' says we are stuck in the past where our light or enlightenment comes with accepting a very dim view of things, fuelled by kerosene or animal fat with greasy, oily, smokey smells.

Modern technology uses LEDs for lighting. UWP therefore is light years away.

Meanwhile, SLP's galactic 'star' lighting does not have the supportive ideas, driven by titled people of character and learning, to drive this country or remove it from the depths of depravity that it continually finds itself, with its convoys of revolving marauding low-educated borbolist MPs. Even all our Bram-Brams want a future making easy money after winning at the polls.
