PRESS RELEASE – In its continuous quest to ready itself for the challenges of building a new St. Lucia, the United Workers Party wishes to announce a change in its line-up of candidates for the upcoming general elections.
Endorsed candidate for Castries Central Mr. Peterson Francis has notified the party of his decision, after careful analysis, to stand down as a candidate, but to support, wholeheartedly, the party’s nominee to replace him in that traditional UWP stronghold.
Mr. Francis met with the top brass of the party and was part of a delegation that later met with and persuaded former Castries Central representative, Sarah Flood-Beaubrun to make a return to elective politics, and be the party’s standard bearer in the seat, she first won in 1997.
Sarah Flood-Beaubrun has remained very popular among residents of Castries Central over the years and was last evening enthusiastically received by members of the UWP Castries Central Campaign Committee.
She will later today be formally re-introduced to the wider party group in Castries Central by Mr. Francis, who will be at the forefront of her election campaign.
Political Leader of the United Workers Party, Allen Chastanet praised Mr. Francis for having first stepped forward, at a difficult time, to serve as a candidate and for now reaffirming his continued support for the party and especially for the election campaign of Mrs. Flood Beaubrun.
Mr. Chastanet said voters of Castries Central would be the ultimate winners, as both Mr. Francis and Mrs. Flood-Beaubrun are earmarked to serve in crucial positions in a new United Workers Party government.
The UWP Leader said he is especially pleased to welcome Sarah Flood-Beaubrun back to elective politics, as her vast experience would be of invaluable assistance to the party both in the campaign and as a senior member of its soon to be formed government.
Mr. Chastanet said the issues Flood-Beaubrun are known to champion, and which she feels very strongly about, are emerging as crucial in the ongoing general elections campaign.
A date for the official launch of Sarah-Flood Beaubrun as the party’s candidate in Castries Central will be announced shortly.
