UPDATED: Pedestrian hit in Vieux Fort

A woman was hit by a vehicle in Augier, Vieux Fort this afternoon.

Reports are that at about 2:45 p.m. the pedestrian, Veronica Benoit, had just gotten off a bus when a car knocked her unconscious.

She was transported to hospital by ambulance.

An eyewitness told St. Lucia News Online: “She got off the bus and was about to run across the road, trying to shelter from the rain, when the car hit her. I feel so sorry for her.”

Another source said, “She looked up but didn’t look down, then the car just picked her up.”

Benoit’s condition of the woman is unknown at this time.

  1. The idiot who is quick to jump to 'driving classes'should get the correct details before rushing to conclusions. Many pedestrians in St.Lucia have no regard for vehicular traffic on or off a pedestrian crossing. Some of you are always quick to blame the drivers, when at times due to the carelessness of pedestrians there isn't anything much which a driver can do. Hope you can apply your driving lessons when your turn comes around, just too quick to judge!

  2. There are all kinds. Some are very careful in crossing, and some will just cross without ensuring that the driver has seen them. I always joke to people that the only legs you can buy at Super J are chicken legs....

  3. Thank you Highlander... I mean someone gets hit and it's "what's happening in St. Lucia?" I'm not happy that someone got hit but people also need to be more careful. In St. Lucia pedestrians just cross anytime, anyhow... They get to the crosswalk and just pelt across because it's a "Pedestrian Crossing." Drivers must be more careful but we need to take responsibility too. The vehicles can easily get a new paint job but we are at risk of losing our lives...

  4. I hope this lady is not seriously injured and recovers soon. However People must realise that they can't just run across the road (rain or not),I see them doing this all the time sometimes with children in tow.Its like the drivers MUST stop and let them cross. Sad to say "Cross at will" is what we are teaching our children today.Just take a drive in castries and see the nonsense pedestrians are doing. Then they are quick to say the driver should have seen them and the driver is wrong. On the flip side didn't they see that big A** Car/Truck or van approaching.People road safety is all of our buisness not that of a selected few.AKA "Drivers"

  5. You're a careful and responsible driver, you notice a bus has stopped to alight a passenger whether or not it's raining, your first reaction should be to slow down and and continue on after you have passed the bus,..But awa..like they never learnt dat in driving classes.

    • dont people get hit by cars in other parts of the world. We are now making it look like st lucia is the worst place in the world. As a child i was told to look left and right and left again before crossing the road.
