FROM SLHTA – Cheryl Gustave, a graduate of the St. Lucia Hotel Trades at the Morne Technical College (Sir Arthur Lewis Community College), joined Cunard Hotel La Toc in December 1977 as a dining room hostess.
With her enthusiasm and determination to get ahead, she has worked in various departments: as telephone operator, receptionist /cashier, secretary to the financial comptroller, and receivables clerk.
In November 1989, Cheryl was promoted to the capacity of credit manager, a post she held until the sale to Sandals in 1992.
At the end of her tenure at Cunard La Toc and Suites, Cheryl decided to spend quality time with her two kids, assisting her son who had just entered St. Mary’s College and preparing her daughter for the Common Entrance. The time spent with her kids has proven to have been worthwhile, and they have both been successful at college.
Her son has just completed his Masters with Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business (MBA executive) and her daughter holds a BA (Hons) in human resource management; she was also awarded a scholarship from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Taiwan to pursue her MSc in tourism management.
In 1995, Cheryl started her tenure at the Bay Gardens Hotel in the capacity of front desk/reservation clerk. Within a few months of joining Bay Gardens Hotel, Cheryl was promoted to front desk/assistant general manager, a position she held until December 2000.
In 1996/1997, she was awarded Employee of the Year at the Par Excellence Awards, and in 2001 she was also awarded Manager of the Year at the Par Excellence Awards.
In December 2001-2006 , Cheryl moved over to the Ginger Lily Hotel, an 11-room boutique hotel as the general manager, where within the opening of this small property, there were a number of repeat clientele under her skillful leadership. Ginger Lily also won, within the second year of operations, a gold award from an international organisation for quality service, being the only small hotel from the Caribbean. Ginger Lily also received a silver award from Virgin Holidays for a well-rounded small hotel.
In March 2007, Cheryl was contracted by the Downtown Hotel in Soufriere to assist in the re-branding and ensuring the presence of this small hotel; the result has been a success story.
June 1, 2007 would see Cheryl returning home to the Bay Gardens family. She is presently employed as the front desk manager/assistant executive manager/resident /operations manager at the Bay Gardens Beach Resort and Spa. Cheryl has received the following awards:

Cheryl was awarded most outstanding employee at the President Ball of the St. Lucia Hotel & Tourism Association in 2012 and in 2013 she was the first inductee into the Bay Gardens Beach Resort Hall of Fame.
Under her leadership, the front desk has, over the seven years, been the most consistence department, winning guest satisfaction on a monthly basis. Also in 2011, the front desk won the Department of the Year award.
Cheryl holds a diploma from the Professional Career Development Institute in Norcross, Georgia, and a Certified Rooms Division Executive (CRDE) from the Educational Institute of American Hotel & Lodging Association.
Cheryl always believes that anyone can achieve whatever they set out to accomplish; her motto in life is to always get ahead and reach for the skies. Her advice to other staff members: never become complacent in whatever you do, always set goals and objectives, and remember the sky is the limit.
