(PRESS RELEASE) – On February 5, 2020, the Soufriere Comprehensive Secondary School (S.C.S.S) held an opening ceremony at the school’s grounds. The ceremony was held to commemorate the official commissioning of an auto mechanics garage.
Among the specially invited guests were the parliamentary representative for Soufriere/Fond St. Jacques, Hon. Herod Stanislas, District Education Officer, Dr. Pauline Antoine, representatives from the Soufriere Regional Development Foundation, president of the PTA, Mr. Giovanni Moses and other stakeholders.
Principal of the S.C.S.S, Mrs. Joelle Charlemagne remarked that she is extremely elated that the project has been finally completed. She stated further this initiative is in keeping with the learning institution’s thrust to introduce skills development into the curriculum. She went on to congratulate the various persons whose efforts were integral to the completion of the projects, highlighting the input of the students themselves.
District Education Officer, Dr. Pauline Antoine, began by commending all those who were part of ensuring the project’s completion. She also highlighted the need to recognize the importance of non-academic disciplines in finding employment in the current job market.
Another specially invited guest, P.T.A president Mr. Giovanni Moses, said that upon the formation of the new PTA executive, they elected to place the garage as their top priority. He added that he, in collaboration with his team will ensure that the garage is adequately equipped to facilitate the development of the skills of the students.
For his part, Hon. Herod Stanislas reiterated his government’s commitment to see, not just the growth of one aspect of the constituency, but its holistic development. Being his Alma Mater, he continued, he is extremely delighted at the school’s achievement.
