Tuesday, July 03rd , 2012 – The grand opening ceremony marking the official start of the 33rd Regular Meeting of the Conference of CARICOM Heads of Government will be broadcast live to the rest of the region via the National Television Network and the Government Information Service of Saint Lucia. The broadcast commences at 8:50am.
Among the noted CARICOM Heads who have made their arrivals for the opening ceremony at the Sandals Grande Hotel Resort and Spa is the President of the Republic of Haiti , His Excellency Mr. Michel Joseph Martelly. On January 1st 2013, the President of the Republic will obtain the presidency of the Conference until June 30th , 2013.
During his stay, the Head of State, who heads a large delegation, will hold talks with several counterparts in the region.
Meantime the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) is high on the Agenda of the CARICOM Heads. CARICOM Secretary General His Excellency Edwin La Rocque says the heads will be deliberating on this highly current issue.
“All of the member states are looking at it very closely in terms of acceding to the appellate jurisdiction of the CCJ. I should point out that all members, those who are active in the CSME are all members of the original jurisdiction. This is a part of the Court that deals with treaty matters and trade matters………. . A number of our countries have constitutional issues to deal with .”
The meeting will take place from July 4th to 6th , under the Chairmanship of Saint Lucia’s Prime Minister Honourable Dr. Kenny Anthony.
