As Lucian Carnival reaches its peak over the next few days, the Saint Lucia Tourist Board is further exciting the Caribbean market as one lucky CARICOM national gets set to witness and participate in the festivities first hand.

As part of marketing efforts designed to place the spotlight squarely on Carnival, the Tourist Board is offering an opportunity to win an all-expense paid round trip for 2 to ‘Simply Beautiful’ Saint Lucia, for ‘Lucian Carnival’ 2013.

The lucky winner gets loads of goodies that include; free band costumes, free access to band parties, and free access to a string of carnival events that feature some the hottest jam sessions; airfare; hotel accommodation and ground transportation.

Open to residents of key Caribbean gateways namely, Barbados, Antigua, Grenada and Trinidad and Tobago, “the competition is a marketing strategy aimed at drumming up interest in the sights, sounds and splendor of Lucan Carnival,” says Deputy Director of Tourism Tracy Warner-Arnold.

The lucky winner, who will be selected via a live radio promotion, will arrive on Saint Lucia on Friday, July 12, the peak of carnival celebrations and depart on Wednesday, July 17, following the popular two-day Parade of the Bands through the streets of the capital, Castries.

Saint Lucia Carnival commences in June and reaches its climax in mid-July. Some of the major events marking the season are the early morning J’ouvert Jump-up, Junior Carnival, Carnival Queen Show Pageant, Calypso Finals, Panorama, and the Groovy and Soca Monarch competitions.

The Saint Tourist Board’s overall support for the 2013 cultural showpiece has also included the sponsorship of this year’s Carnival Queen Amy Stephen. She emerged winner out of a field of six other contestants.

Some 13 carnival bands are participating in ‘Lucan Carnival’ 2013 with an average of 6,000 registered costumed revelers expected to hit the streets for the two-day jump up. Meantime thousands of onlookers are expected to line city streets to witness the spectacle unfold.
