Oliver Gobat Sports Fund donates to National Boxing Programme


PRESS RELEASE – The Saint Lucia Boxing Association (SLBA) has received a donation of Five Thousand Eastern Caribbean Dollars ($5,000ECD) from the Oliver Gobat Sports Fund (TOGS fund).

The funds were presented on Monday November 21 2016 and will go towards the upgrade and expansion of the National Boxing Gymnasium at Vigie.

In making the donation Mrs Helen Gobat, mother of the deceased hotelier said her family was pleased to continue supporting Saint Lucia and hopes the donation makes a meaningful impact in the lives of young boxers. Miss Gobat expressed great pleasure in the national boxing programme having followed its progress in recent years.

The donation was received by the President of the Saint Lucia Boxing Association (SLBA) Mr David “Shakes” Christopher who pledged to ensure the funding is expended prudently.

The SLBA President acknowledged that is was extremely commendable that the Gobat family continues to invest time and resources in Saint Lucia, after the unfortunate incident and thanked the family for their generous donation.

The funds will go into immediate use with construction work expected to commence at the boxing gymnasium next week. However, the SLBA would require additional support and encourages corporate and private citizens who are able, to support the project.

The Oliver Gobat Sports Fund (TOGS fund) has expressed interest in providing further support to the national boxing programme in the future.
