Official end to the 2016 Atlantic Hurricane Season

Press Release

2016-10-06 20_04_27-Hurricane forecast_ Matthew could hit Florida twice - CNN.comPRESS RELEASE – November 30, 2016 marked the official end to the Traditional Atlantic Hurricane Season.  According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the 2016 season “was the first above-normal season since 2012.”   This year the Atlantic witnessed 15 named storms, including 7 hurricanes (Alex, Earl, Gaston, Hermine, Matthew, Nicole, and Otto), 3 of which were major hurricanes (Gaston, Matthew and Nicole).

Saint Lucia was affected only by Tropical Storm Matthew which later became a Hurricane impacting Haiti, Cuba, Bahamas and the USA at varying strengths.  According to NOAA “Matthew was the first category 5 hurricane in the Atlantic basin since Felix in 2007.”

NEMO takes this opportunity to remind persons that the country can be affected by any hazard, including hurricanes and storms outside of the Traditional Hurricane Season, as was experienced in December 2013 with the “Christmas Eve Trough.”

Hence the following is provided for your guidance.
