Dubbed “Lucian Leaders’ Summit,” the forum is being organized by the St. Lucia National Youth Council (NYC) with financial support from the US Peace Corps and the Participation Program of UNESCO.
“The NYC believes that the constant engagement of students whether in or out of school is imperative to the development of youth leadership and student participation in national affairs. Such continuous education also reinforces learning and helps the students fully internalize the ideas and principles presented at such forums,” an NYC said in a press release.
The August 19-23, 2013 summit will entail small and large group training sessions that address issues of interpersonal communications, personal development, health and wellness and financial literacy, the release said.
The training will also concentrate on issues relating to ICT in education and the youths’ roles and responsibilities as young leaders within their local schools.
“ The summit is also team-building oriented and is packed with fun and positively competitive activities that teach practical group dynamics,” the release said.
The ‘Lucian Leaders’ Summit’ will take place at the Grande Riviere Primary School, Gros Islet and will involve student leaders from all secondary schools.
Registration is currently open to secondary school and youth leaders who are part of community groups between ages14-18 years.
The NYC’s office is located on La Pansee Road, Castries. Persons are encouraged to call 452 – 7445 or 485- 5017 and emailed the council at [email protected]
