The National Youth Council (NYC) will be hosting Sankofa 2, an Independence symposium, at the Limelight building in Micoud on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 from 10 am to 3 pm for students and 7pm to 10pm for the general public.
The event is free and open to everyone.
According to a NYC press release, Sankofa is a West African phrase for “the importance of learning from the past” and “as we once again commemorate our nation’s independence the National Youth Council looks to address the growing concern that many of the nation’s youth seem to be increasingly disaffected by the importance, meaning and relevance of Independence.
“By affording several young creative professionals and other distinguished youth the opportunity to have their say in the national discourse on what Independence means, the NYC looks to put on a high-end, multi-media event that aims to capture and appreciate the spirit and meaning of Independence.”
