(PRESS RELEASE) — The leadership of the National Workers Union (NWU) along with shop stewards will meet with the Government Negotiating Team (GNT) at 2 p.m on Thursday, September 26, 2019.
The parties will discuss the union’s position of concluded negotiations across the board and the necessity for establishing equity, standardisation and job security.
Last year December, the NWU requested $1,000 as an interim position pending negotiations in the first quarter of 2019. That was met by the GNT. On Thursday, the NWU will be requesting a full day (eight hours) for janitors in the Ministry of Education, payment while schools are closed, $800 and a general wage increase. The new package will cover two trienniums, ending in 2022.
Daily paid workers, watchmen, Constituency Council workers and non-established workers represented by the NWU will benefit from the new industrial agreement.
