NWU obtains incentives for WASCO workers

The management of Water & Sewerage Company Inc. (WASCO) and the National Workers Union (NWU) have reached agreement on two long outstanding compensation issues:

* Compensation for dirty work undertaken by sewerage workers
* Payment of increments

Sewerage workers will receive a 10 percent “Dirty Work Premium” for the period 2010 to 2014. Increments of twelve cents per hour will be paid out to all workers for the 2010-2012 period.

It was also agreed that the retroactive payments will be staggered throughout a pay schedule starting July 25, 2014 until September 5, 2014.

A formal signing of the old contract will be done shortly.

  1. Fine for the Wasco employees to get an increase going forward but absolutely ludicrous that the increase was given retroactively!!! Wonder who's going to be paying that? Oh, that would be everyone in SL. Unions, especially the NWU, are killing the country and driving away good businesses. Dr.Kenny has found it necessary to cut wages 5% to help pay for the 39% wage increases received over the recent past.
