NWU concerned about escalating cost of goods and services

PRESS RELEASE –
The National Workers Union (NWU) is extremely concerned with the escalating cost of goods and services on the island.

The NWU strongly believes that should this trend be allowed to continue without measuring its social consequence, workers of this country will soon be unable to meet their domestic economic obligations.

While some employers are seen battling to keep their businesses operational, we are now beginning to experience layoffs, redundancies, terminations and closures. The National Workers Union sees such action as discouraging and inflicting the hardest punishment on the working people of Saint Lucia.

We are now lagging far behind, but we cannot give up. We must be more tolerant. We must respect the views and opinions of others and be fully prepared to construct a national economic programme that will have the support and approval of the majority to get Saint Lucia out of its economic ditch.

  1. Hahaha - union concerned about rising prices. That's funny cuz the union demands big wage increase at the stores, cable companies, etc., and then wonders why the prices have to go up?

  2. JCC 100% correct, especially NWU. Bye bye Belle Fashions. Bye bye Honeywell, etc. More companies to close soon. None can stand the theatrics of the NWU.

  3. Oh i left out in RESULTS:

Discontiued aid from the US (Why did Kenny play weasel when Joe Biden (US Vice President) came to the caribbean?). NO foreign Investments. Even no more nursing scholarships from Cuba (what did Kenny do or say to Castro considering they were friends?)

More facts to add but i will leave to other posters. WHY DO WE CONTINUE TO BLAME OURSELVES WHEN THE CREATOR OF THE PROBLEM STILL CONTIUES TO DICTATE?

  4. WAIT!! Did George Charles get us here? Did Bill Clinton lead the US into the Econmic Crisis? Did John Compton lead St. Lucia to economic ruin?

We are but a bunch of fools who try to blame everybody else for our failures.

    LET US EXAMINE THIS FACTUALLY:

When King handed this country to Anthony there was a current account surplus of over 200 million. There was an amount collected for the airport reconstruction as well as St. Jude (maybe still in construction), where are those moneys?

The Government of Kenny comes in, implements VAT and gets over 200 million in revenue, Reduces subsidies on all basic products (saving), Gets the loans money from CDB to fund Tomas reconstruction, Gets and still continue to get many grants to fund Christmas Trough recovery,Increases taxes on electricity, increases rates on water, Still gets aid from Taiwaneese, Gets aid from ALBA

    Results:
Budget deficit, Higher Unemployment (25%). Uncontrollable crime (more gruesome murders and brazen killers), Higher rates for utilities, many closure of businesses, No money for cultural events, High press censorship (Is GIS re-organized or the whole charade was just a smoke screen?), High legals fees associated with Grindberg etc, etc.

Now you tell me who or what is responsible for this situation. If you cannot decide i will ask the 6 year old boy whose IQ is probably greater than yours.

  5. Lucians should stop complaining about the cost of imported items. If you don't make it yourselves, then you can pay the market rate that everyone else pays. Got it?

  7. The government is out of touch with the people and out of touch with the real world. His is clearly reflected in most policy decisions that sound very good in theory but screw us over practically. We have a government without a clue as to how to solve the many problems they have themselves created. And the country is in a serious bad place economically. They won't tell u the alarming statistics as to the # of businesses packing up and leaving and how the unemployment rate is rising daily. Get de flock out of here.

  8. Noel you have just ventilated your deepest ignorance. Why discriminate against your own people and then call other races racist. Many of those u call country bookies are more educated than you are and have made better contribution to the development of this country than you have for sure. Its an unfortunate statement to make in 2014.Smh.

    • Bambi:
Those who don't discriminate, indiscriminately wind up making very poor life choices, just as we continue to do today with election candidates and so-called leaders. With this, any old broomstick, crook, liar, or e-d-at will do, as when Holy Saint John Compton walked this earth. See where that got us.

    • If you are willing to commit your life and place that in the hands of real ignoramuses, that's your god-damn choice. I want the very best for myself, and my children's children.
No country bookie can ever get me to vote for a chicken leg or a $100 bill. Never. I just don't vote. And I am way past and above any of your kind of acceptable crap. Get real. You are free to wallow in your $$##!!&&%$*
