While the negotiations did not attract any form of industrial drama, both sides were determined to be focused on the many issues at hand and the importance of improving the lot of janitors and cleaners.
The industrial wage package agreed upon will be no less than what was given to the other unions. However, community health aides and other health workers will benefit from upward adjustments. Daily paid island-wide council workers and non-establishment workers of government will all benefit from a revised regime of fringe benefits.
The Government Negotiating Team gave the assurance that every effort will be made to give effect to the increase, lump sum payment and back pay at the end of June and July 2013.
It is expected that the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government Negotiating Team and the National Workers Union will be signed shortly.
