NURC capacity building workshop begins today

(PRESS RELEASE) – A three-day exercise, geared towards promoting efficiency of the utility service and ensuring compliance with regional and international standards in electricity management, will be held in the Bougainvillea Conference Room, Bay Gardens Hotel, Saint Lucia from March 3 to 5, 2020.

This, with the support of the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), reported Saint Lucia’s Ambassador to the United States.

The regulatory capacity building workshop, which is being conducted in partnership with the Saint Lucia National Utilities Regulatory Commission (NURC) will focus on, inter alia: Fundamentals of Utility Regulation; Electricity tariff/rate setting; Structuring and overseeing legal documents related to Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), Interconnection Agreements, and other relevant agreements; Public Procurement; Technical Considerations of High Penetration Distributed Photovoltaic (PV) Deployment; Utility Performance Benchmarking; Fundamentals of Regulatory Impact Assessment, and Cost of service analysis.

In January, members of the NURC participated in a Public Utilities Research Center’s (PURC) Annual Conference for Utilities Services Providers, Policy Makers and Regulators facilitated by a group of regulatory professionals.
