North American travel experts set for 2nd Annual Saint Lucia showcase

After a successful inaugural in 2013 excitement is again rife as USA and Canadian based travel industry experts, wholesalers, representatives of destination marketing companies, together with senior hotel executives converge on Saint Lucia for a major travel industry conference.

The Saint Lucia Tourist Board (SLTB) is again partnering with the Saint Lucia Hotel and Tourism Association (SLHTA) and the Ministry of Tourism to stage here on ‘Simply Beautiful,’ Saint Lucia, the 2nd annual ‘Saint Lucia North American Showcase.’ This year the SLTB is proud to announce an increase of 30% of registered North American buyers.

Commencing today (July 24, 2014), the four-day event will provide a unique opportunity for industry partners to mix, network and conduct business in a casual yet productive atmosphere, in a multiple award winning destination.

The conference main daytime meeting venue will be at the Sandals Grande St Lucian. All evening events, of which the Saint Lucia Showcase will boast quite a few, will be hosted at different locales across the island by sponsored partners, among them The Landings, Capella at Marigot Bay, the Royal by Rex and the Windjammer Landing Beach Resort.

In endorsing the 2nd annual Showcase, Director of Tourism Louis Lewis said the upcoming event provides yet another opportunity to place Saint Lucia squarely in the international spotlight. “The USA and Canada represent key markets for us with the USA bringing in over 128,000 tourist arrivals in 2013 and 76,267 arrivals year to date through June; 43% of overall market share this year,” says Lewis.

Lewis stated, “The Canada market, represents 14% of overall market share and has increased by 9% year to date through June. These figures demonstrate the tremendous potential for growth available in those two markets and we are sparing no effort in seeking all possible avenues aimed at tapping into that growth potential.”

Whilst engaging in site inspections and reviews of the island’s varied product offerings, the USA and Canadian wholesale partners will dialogue on a wide range of issues facing the industry, chief among them are new products and future business (based on pre-scheduled appointments).

Several hotels and other industry partners have come out strong in support of the July 24-27 Saint Lucia Showcase.     Twenty-three years of Jazz didn't do the trick; and this four-day event will. The mighty Pitons didn't do the trick; and this four-day event will. Our two nobel laureates didn't do the trick; and this four-day event will.
    When will the Tourist Board stop wasting our taxpayer dollars on travel agents etc., and start putting the money to good use?
    Keeping our roads, especially the one from the international airport, well maintained, and crime low, is a much better investment than spending so much on travel agents.
