PRESS RELEASE – The newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to Saint Lucia, His Excellency Mr. Ray Hua-wei Mou, paid a courtesy call to the Leader of the Opposition, Dr. Gale Rigobert on Thursday, October 22, 2015.

His Excellency Mr. Ray Hua-wei Mou expressed his country’s continued commitment to supporting the national development of Saint Lucia, particularly through health, education, infrastructure and agriculture. His Excellency Mr. Ray Hua-wei Mou said that he looks forward to working closely with the Government and people of Saint Lucia to further strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Leader of the Opposition and Member of Parliament for Micoud North, Dr. Gale Rigobert, said she remains extremely grateful for the contributions of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to Saint Lucia. “The value of our diplomatic friendship with the Republic of China (Taiwan) can be seen and felt throughout the island of Saint Lucia and across a range of sectors. The socio-economic benefits of this relationship have also had a tremendous impact on the various sub-communities of Micoud North.”

“Through the generosity of the Government and People of the Republic of China (Taiwan), the residents of Micoud North have benefitted from several critical projects undertaken to date. The reconstruction of the Praslin Jetty, the construction of the Community IT Access Centre in Micoud and the rehabilitation of the Praslin Multi-purpose Court, being the most recent,” said Dr. Rigobert.

The Leader of the Opposition and the Ambassador, His Excellency Mr. Ray Hua-wei Mou shared hopes that the recent opening of a Saint Lucian Embassy in the R.O.C, would lead to even greater opportunities for the Government and People of both countries.
