(PRESS RELEASE) – Matches for the Spider Cup 2017 continued on the Gros Islet Playing Field on Saturday November 25, 2017 with two keenly contested football games.
In the first encounter, Gros Islet Veterans FC competed against Domino’s Sports Locker Northern United FC at 6:30 pm.
In this battle of the generations, the old boys were out matched by the pace of the young lads from the first 35 minutes of the game. In the tenth minute, Turgard Stava, from Domino’s Sports Locker Northern United FC, put a goal past the veteran goal keeper in a well taken free kick 25 yards away from goal. In the 22nd minute, Captain Gabriel Biscette, of the same team, penalized the slow defense of the old boys and placed a goal from the right corner and concluded first half with a score of 2-0 in favour of his team.
In the second half of the game, the old boys made all three allotted changes. By this time, it appeared as if the young lads had run out of steam. The Veterans team however created over ten chances but were inadvertently unable to convert any of them.
Domino’s Sports Locker Northern United FC made the automatic conversion to defensive mode until a change was made in the Midfield where Samuel Lawrence came in to the game. Young Lawrence took control of the game and that allowed Domino’s Sports Locker Northern United FC to press forward which finally paid off in the 80th minute with a goal from Super Sub Samuel Lawrence.
The game ended with a 3-0 score in favour of Domino’s Sports Locker Northern United FC.
