Tourists and locals will now have something new to look forward to come summer 2017.
Prime Minister Allen Chastanet has announced that the a new event dubbed the ‘Summer Festival’ will replace the country’s most popular tourism event, the annual Jazz and Arts Festival.
According to Chastanet, the new event will include carnival, different genres of music and the Creole and Heritage Festival in November.
Persons can also expect different events and concerts every two weeks between May to November, the prime minister has said.
Carnival celebrations in July will also be expanded to three weeks during the new Summer Festival.
The Chastanet-led government has repeatedly stated it’s disapproval of having millions of dollars being spent on one event and the returns is far less than what is usually invested.
The government is also planning to replace the Saint Lucia Tourist Board with the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority.
Jazz Festival has for the past 25 years, brought together international as well as local musicians, and has featured some of the biggest names in music like: Rihanna, John Legend, and Amy Winehouse.
