National Youth debating competition is here!

PRESS RELEASE – The Saint Lucia National Youth Council in collaboration with the National Lotteries Authority and the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports is elated to announce the 2nd Annual National Debate Competition amongst District Youth and Sports Councils in St. Lucia.

The first round kicks off with seven (7) simultaneous debates this Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. according to the following fixture:

Contenders  and venues includes: Fort North vs. Micoud, Belle Vue Human Resource Centre, Choiseul vs. Canaries,  Choiseul Secondary School, Vieux Fort South vs. Dennery, Clendon Mason Memorial Secondary School, Laborie vs. Gros Islet,  Gros Islet Primary School,  Mon Repos vs. Soufriere,    Patience Combined School.

The topic for this round is:

“Given that the Western World has moved to embrace the LGBT community, the church should do the same by providing equal opportunities in its operations and access to all activities”. 

Members of the public are invited to attend and support the activities in their areas as there will also be a segment for public opinions to be shared on the topics.

  1. This is a very rewarding experience and I urge many more young persons to be involved. The topics are educational and are on every day issues. I am Supporting Team Gros-Islet and I say Bravo to Zachary Hippolyte and Raejan Montoute who are on board another year.


  2. Nothing is really new here. This has been part of annual programme of the NYC since the 1970s. Some of the products of these activities are in leadership positions here at home and in the OECS. Nonetheless, it is nice to see character and youth leadership development is still very part of the objectives of the current NYC.
