(PRESS RELEASE) – Sir Ira Simmons Secondary School celebrated its 25th anniversary on November 6, 2017. In light of this momentous occasion, the school is hosting a series of celebratory events, including a bigger and grander Mr and Ms Sir Ira Simmons Pageant.
The Mr and Ms SISSS Pageant is an annual event that showcases student talent and creativity, and seeks to enhance self-esteem and a positive self- image.
The Pageant is slated to take place on December 2, 2017 at the Castries Comprehensive Secondary School Auditorium from 6:00 p.m; Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The Pageant will also showcase performances by current and past students, as well as popular local performers. Shemmy J, VeayGel, CAM Dancers and other surprise performers will light up the stage in between contestant performances. The much anticipated 2nd edition of the SISSS Teacher’s Fashion show will also wow the audience.
This year, eight fabulous form four contestants will lead the audience on a trip “Around the World”, the theme for this year’s pageant. The contestants will compete for the title of Mr and Ms Sir Ira Simmons, while showcasing customs, costumes and talent associated with various countries. Desiree Clavier and Khalil Stephen will take us to Spain as they represent Flambouyant House (Red); Grace Alexander and Malick Barrett will transport audiences to France as they represent Calabash House (Green); Janiah Paul and Jermaine Jeria will take us down under, as they showcase Australia, representing Cassia House (Yellow); and Kenisha Casimir and Tristan Best will explore Ethiopia, as they represent Frangipani House (Blue).
Considering the quality and talent of this year’s contestants, it is sure to be a tight and exciting race to the throne! Come out and support your favourite contestant and find out who will win the title of Mr & Ms Sir Ira Simmons 2017. In addition to the acclaimed title, trophy, and a special gift, the winning contestants will also have their CXC fees paid by the school.
Contestants will showcase their skill during three judged segments: introduction, talent and interview. They must also incorporate aspects of their chosen country into their overall performance, in line with this year’s pageant theme. In addition to the grand prize titles, contestants also have an opportunity to compete for titles of Best Dressed, Best Theme Depiction, Best Talent, Mr & Ms Congeniality, which is determined by contestant vote, and Mr & Ms Photogenic, which is determined by an online Facebook voting contest which runs from Friday November 24th to Friday December 1, 2017. This is an event you don’t want to miss! Students, parents and community members of all ages are invited to come out and support the Sir Ira Simmons School. Supporters are invited to wear their favourite contestant’s house colour in order to show your support! Tickets can be purchased from the Sir Ira Simmons Secondary School Bursar or any contestant. Tickets are available for $20.00 and children under 12 are $10.00. Tickets will be sold at the door for $25.00.
