PRESS RELEASE – On Saturday May 28th, 2016, The St. Lucia Red Cross Society will be hosting its annual Mr. and Miss Red Cross Youth Pageant.
This is the fourth consecutive year that the St. Lucia Red Cross Youth Committee has organised the event and this year is already proving to be the biggest, with over ten contestants due to participate.
The event has become an annual feature on the youth calendar and organised as part of World Red Cross Day activities which are held every year on May 8th.
The show will begin at 2pm at the Castries Comprehensive Secondary School Auditorium and tickets for the event are only $20.00 at the door with children under twelve years $10.00.
Participants for the show this year hail from the St.Joseph’s Convent Secondary School, Entrepot Secondary School, Gros Islet Secondary School, Babonneau Secondary School, Ciceron Secondary School and Sir Arthur Lewis Community College. A total of eight young aspiring men and women will be competing for the coveted title of Mr and Miss Red Cross Youth.
These young volunteers will perform under the theme “My Red Cross Journey”. They will be judged on their introduction, talent, ambassadorial wear and ambassadorial speech. This event has always been one of a difference where participants design ambassadorial outfits that are practical as well as versatile to perform the activities of a Red Cross Volunteer.
The young volunteers will also be engaging in their ambassadorial speech which has replaced the interview section. The ambassadorial speech will give the contestants the opportunity to speak on different topics affecting our society and solutions to help overcome these issues.
The Red Cross and our youth are vital members of our society and the Red Cross Youth Pageant is seen as an avenue to encourage persons to actively participate in volunteerism, and join a family of caring young persons.
