A motorcyclist sustained an injury to the leg when his bike hit a car and a minibus in San Souci, Castries during peak-hour traffic this afternoon between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Reports are that the motorcycle (PJ1629) was heading in a northerly direction when he hit the front of the car (PE2212) which was at the time exiting the LUCELEC junction. The motorcyclist then collided with the minibus (M315).

An eyewitness said the motorcyclist was honking his horn, hoping to get the attention of the car. The source added that the motorcyclist then swerved to avoid hitting the car, but instead brushed the car’s front-end before being “wedged” by the bus.

Eyewitnesses say the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet and he only suffered a laceration below knee.

  2. WOW! Ignorant Lucians and biker advocates, the idiot biker hit the car after both lanes of traffic clearly stopped for the car to exit the junction. If the vehicles ahead of bike stopped, why did the biker think he shouldn't and continued with his speed causing this unnecessary collision.Bikers have rights but they must obey traffic laws.

  4. I rode bikes in St.Lucia and I can honestly say, four wheelers and truckers have no respect for bikers. The mini bus drivers are the number one culprits. They cut you off and stop short in front of you and think nothing of it. I must say though, some bikers ride like maniacs making good riders look bad. There is nothing wrong with the roadways, it is the operators that create accidents. Most accidents are avoidable.

  6. Drivers need to have a bit more patience on these roads... Our roads are already not wide enough. Not because motorbikes allow one the freedom to roam without the hindrance of traffic means that motorcyclist should take advantage of these freedoms on our miniature roads...

Regardless, I am glad he wore his helmet and that he didn't sustain severe injures.

  7. Motor cyclists was in quite a hurry... squeezing his way through traffic minutes before the accident...SMH he never got to the place he was in a hurry to get to. Because you're on a bike does not mean you can just ride or squeeze your way through. Traffic laws pertain to all road users.

    • And I quote from the article above: "Eyewitnesses say the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet and he only suffered a laceration below knee"

      • a helmet is not gearrrrr ppl..chewps...clothing...boots...spine protector etc...For some reason we think a helmet is gear but one can die even if the head in intact from injuries secondary to road rash etc...

I just wish ppl would adhere.

I'm glad his injuries were minimal.

  9. Not saying whose fault it is , but in St Lucia we confuse the horn and the brakes. If you see an accident is about to happen should you hit the horns or the brakes?
In my experience almost every time people honk their horns and don't bother to slow down, hence the accident rate.
It does not matter if you have the right of way. It's better to slow down and give up that right than to blow your horns , keep going and end up in an accident.
