In an effort to improve the quality of education being offered here, the government will be placing more focus on several key areas, especially those that have not received much attention in the past.
Education Minister Dr. Robert Lewis said that his ministry plans to place heavy focus this year on expanding and improving special needs education and Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET).
Dr. Lewis said a team from St. Lucia visited Barbados last year, to get a first-hand experience on how their special needs education programme is working, in order to integrate some of it locally.
“In October the Ministry of Education did launch the new Education Sector Development Plan which focuses on quality education,” he explained.
The Plan covers the whole of the education sector from early childhood education to the tertiary level. It also focuses on information technology, adult and continuing education and human resource development.
The minister expressed optimism that education will be improved greatly at all levels in St. Lucia with the new education plan and there will also be more successes in TVET and special needs education.
