More assistance for capital projects

The government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has made yet another major contribution to assist with capital projects in Saint Lucia.

Yesterday Ambassador James Chang presented a cheque of US$775,436.79 or approximately EC$2,000,000 to Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony, who in turn made a presentation to the Office of the Accountant General.

These funds will go towards the Government’s capital programme, as outlined in the estimates for the 2013/2014 financial year.
Specifically, the beneficiary projects of this grant are as follows:

1. The lighting of the Philip Marcellin Grounds in Vieux-Fort, the Anse La Raye playing field, the La Resource playing field in Dennery and the Marchand Grounds in Castries;

2. The construction of community access centres in the town of Vieux-Fort and the village of Micoud; and

3. The development of a block making facility at the Bordelais Correctional Facility.

During the ceremony, Dr Anthony gave a brief overview of the projects to be funded and expressed his deepest gratitude to the government and people of the Republic of China (Taiwan) for their continued assistance in such difficult times.

Dr. Anthony also took time out to recognise the efforts of the staff of the various ministries in ensuring that these projects come to fruition.

This cheque presentation ceremony was the second in as many weeks held at the Office of the Prime Minister. On October 28, the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) presented a cheque of US$ 3,000,000 or EC $8,167,328.33, for the funding of infrastructural projects under the Constituency Development Programme.

  2. if saint Lucia choose to apply the Municipal Government system, when monies like this enter the accountant general office it would have travel through the pipe line much better where each town, village or community council, hence every tom, jack and Jill would have benefit from this in a much better manner than the central government can pick and choose of every which who gets a piece of the pie.
