An 11-year-old narrowly escaped death in Desruisseaux during the Christmas Eve flooding but two brothers were not so lucky.
Desmond Augustin and Davis Augustin, both of Belle Fond, Soufriere died when the car in which they were travelling were caught by rising flood waters from a river in the vicinity of the Desruisseax-Canelles Gap.
Alenia Kiana Malcolm, who is Davis’ stepdaughter, was hospitalized in stable condition.
Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony mentioned the tragedy during a press briefing this morning to update the nation on the recovery efforts after the passage of the trough system.
“We thank God for the life of the 11-year-old who survived the tragedy… below the Desruisseaux Gap…..It was a miracle that she survived,” Dr. Anthony said.
The Augustin brothers – the only children for their mother – were among the six people who died during the floods last week.
