In response to the several cries of hopelessness from the unemployed, Member of Parliament for Micoud North Dr Gale Rigobert in collaboration with private and public sector agencies, will be hosting a ‘Career Fair’ on Friday, November 6, at the Micoud RC Church Ground.
Dr. Rigobert told St. Lucia News Online, “Too very often job seekers are fully aware of what potential employers are looking for. Apart from formal academic qualifications, increasingly other skills, classified as soft skills, can prove to be the determining factor, as to whether or not an employer would hire someone.”
While it is acknowledged that the St. Lucian economy is contracting and that job opportunities appear to be shrinking, Dr. Rigobert is hoping that a job fair of this nature can better prepare school leavers, job hunters, and students currently at secondary and tertiary education institutions, to avail themselves of whatever opportunities are available.
Dr Rigobert is also appealing to unemployed youth in Micoud North and environs to capitalize on this rare opportunity, to simultaneously engage with employers and to gain a better or deeper understanding of what the job market requires.
Participating agencies for the job fair include: the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF), Saint Lucia Fire Service (SLFS), Mampa Employment Agency, Saint Lucia Hotel and Tourism Association (SLHTA), St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC), Water and Sewerage Company Inc (WASCO) and various agencies from the medical sector, among others.
The career fair starts at 10:00 a.m. and will include various presentations. The attendees will be afforded the opportunity to ask questions and to meet with representatives from the partcipating agencies.
