PRESS RELEASE – When the curtains came down on the 2015 Barbados ITF Tennis Tournament (Barbados Scotia Bank COTECC U14 Circuit), it was 14-year-old Šț. Lucian tennis star Meggan William, student of the legendary tennis coach Vernon Lewis of Vernon Lewis International Tennis Academy, who captured the girls under-14 title.

Meggan eased her way through the qualifying round robin stage of the tournament, placing at number 4 in the main draw. Not deterred by that position, Meggan was destined to maintain her composure, strength, mental ability and style on court when she demolished everyone in her way.

She received a bye in the first round, landing her straight into round two awaiting the winner of the match between Chante Francis of Antigua and Kay Lee Hazzard of Grenada. Hazzard came along with a fierce win over Francis at 6-4, 6-0 to join Meggan in the second round.

Meggan spared no time or effort in dismissing Hazzard, sending the Grenadian packing with a convincing 6-3, 6-1 win to move into the semi-finals of the tournament.

She then faced Jamaica’s No. 1 14’s female, Jenna Harrison, who provided some much needed opposition when Meggan showed her the path of oustation, sending her off with a 7-5, 6-3 win to secure her spot in the finals.

By this time nothing was stopping the “Venus William” look-a-like Šț. Lucian.

She then faced 14-year-old powerhouse from France, Isis Lafrontiere, who was ranked No. 1 for the tournament, and placed her in the same bag as everyone else, sending her to take the second-place spot with a 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 win over the French.

Meggan together with her other Šț. Lucian counterparts departed Barbados on Saturday, April 4 to participate in the Trinidad leg of the ITF Tennis Tournament, which takes place from April 6-11, 2015.

An elated and joyous Coach Vernon Lewis indicated that he had great confidence that the little superstar would do some well-deserved damage at the tournaments.

He indicated that quite apart from Meggan William, the many other members of the VLIT Academy continue to shine at these tournaments and will hopefully come home with many trophies this year.

The Šț Lucia Tennis Association wishes to thank the many sponsors – ECFH, Alternative Security, PKF Professional Services, BOSLIL, Financial Centre Corporation, IBS Inc, Vacation & Corporate Car Rental, S H Construction, Sagicor Finance, Car 4 Rent Inc and Digicel Šț Lucia for their continued support in ensuring that our players participate in these overseas tournaments.

  3. Wow well done and congratulations. I remember her mum at Corinth being a great athlete. I also remember Vernon Lewis being a bad boy tennis player. For people we don't understand 'bad boy' in this sentence means a great tennis player. Keep flying our flag and making your family proud Meggan!!
