Press Release

unnamed-2PRESS RELEASE – The Massy United Insurance U-19 Schools Cricket Tournament batted off on Wednesday 15th  February, 2017 with one match at the Gros Islet Playing Field with defending champions St. Mary’s College coming up against Entrepot Secondary at the Gros Islet Playing Field.

Play commenced with brief remarks from Massy United Insurance representative and cricket stalwart, Mr. Hollis Bristol. A brilliant maiden century from Steven Mitchel spurred St Mary’s College to a comfortable 58 run victory over Entrepot Secondary.

For the past thirty years Massy United Insurance (United Insurance Ltd.) has partnered with the Government of Saint Lucia through the Department of Youth Development and Sports to influence and change the level of the schools’ cricket competitions.

Over the years we have witnessed the rise to fame of several of Saint Lucia’s young cricketers; the likes of Daren Sammy, Johnson Charles, Dalton Polius, Keddy Lesporis, Tarick Gabriel, Larry Edward and more recently Johnnel Eugene, Kimani Melius & Simeon Gerson to name a few who have all come through the United Insurance U-19 Cricket Tournament and have made their mark on the regional & international scenes.

The successes of these young men/cricketers have helped to put Saint Lucia on the cricket map and have also contributed to the sport being one of the more popular sporting disciplines among the schools.  In this regard, Massy United Insurance has continued to partner with the Department of Youth Development and Sports, to ensure that the island, and by extension the sport of cricket continue to reap rewards in being able to produce remarkable cricketers.

Matches will continue in different communities around the island with the grand finals expected to be held on 1st April, 2017 (venue to be decided on at a later date). In the meantime, we ask the public to continue to follow the press for future updates.
