Now celebrating 10 years of a strong partnership, the company has pledged even more support for the Association, whose activities this year will focus on the impact of Diabetes on the eyes and the importance of Healthy Living in combating the disease.
The Association’s sensitization exercises for Diabetes and Hypertension Awareness Month include a series of workshops, radio programmes in both Creole and English, town hall meetings, documentaries, Moonlight Walks, a Family Fiesta at Vigie Beach and a major health fair scheduled for November 14th, World Diabetes Day.
According to the President of SLDHA, Mr. Eugene, ‘we have come a long way but still have so much more to do as the number of Saint Lucians affected by Diabetes, have increased alarmingly and continue to rise’. Lauding the support of its many partners he acknowledged the unwavering commitment of Massy Stores, who he noted “stood by us in this past decade, to help bring awareness to this growing cause of death on the island.’
Divisional Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications of Massy Stores, Mrs. Best added, ‘Massy Stores is honored to continue its long-standing relationship with the Diabetes Association and as a company, we are happy to use our supermarkets as a platform to educate and raise awareness on steps to preventing or managing this disease, especially through nutrition and healthy living. “
In that regard, apart from a cash contribution of EC $7,500.00 to the SLDHA, the supermarket chain has a series of activities planned to compliment the efforts of Association in raising consciousness and awareness. One such activity is Nutrition Advice and Label Reading at all Massy Stores from Nov 10th – 21st. During that period a Nutritionist will be available at the stores from 5-7pm to help customers understand how to read the labels of products and provide information on steps that can be taken towards healthy eating.
On Friday November 11th which is designated as Denim Day Island wide, the Association is inviting all St. Lucians to wear blue. Massy Stores staff will be supporting the event. Customers are encouraged to do the same, as well as pledge funds to the SLDHA dollar drive on at the stores on that day.
From Monday November 7th through to November 14th the company will also offer discounts to customers at all of its pharmacies, as further show of support to the cause.
