Man still in remand 12 years after being accused of murder

A man who is accused of committing a murder in the year 2000 is no-where closer to going on trial.

The case of James Marquis is yet to progress beyond the case management stage. The defendant is currently on remand at the Bordelais Correctional Facility.

Marquis’ case was brought up in the High Court on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013.

According to psychiatric and psychological reports, Marquis should receive treatment regularly due to his current mental capacity.  This treatment is not however available at the Bordelais Correctional Facility and Marquis cannot be transferred to the Wellness Centre due to the lack of proper facilities to house him based on the severity of his crime.

Marquis’ attorney, Shawn Innocent, was also unable to provide a more viable solution to the court’s predicament.

Justice Francis Cumberbatch adjourned the matter to September 26, 2013 for further review.
