Man found dead in Gros Islet may have committed suicide

A post mortem done on the body that was found on the Gros Islet Fisheries Complex last week revealed that death was caused by the ingestion of a poisonous substance.

The body of 52-year-old Victor Albert, also known as Indian, was discovered at about 3 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 22.

Albert’s post mortem, which was conducted on Saturday, Oct. 25, revealed that he died of “respiratory failure secondary to toxic ingestion”, well-placed sources told St. Lucia News Online (SNO).

The sources say there is no evidence to suggest that Albert was induced in consuming poison.

“There is no foul play surrounding his death…no marks of violence. The death appeared to be self-inflicted,” one of the sources told SNO.

Despite the outcome of the post mortem, police are still carrying out investigations into the death, the sources say.

Albert reportedly lived alone at Marina Road in Gros Islet town and cleaned fish nearby at the Fisheries Complex. He is originally from the south of the island.

  2. I have never heard of any suicidal individual that kills himself and hides the evidence. In this case what killed him or may I was what he ingested, was probably already in a capsule. Since no container was found having any reside. It's a miracle........spreading rumors without humor.

  3. THANKS FOR THE EDIT MERRICK.NO ONE KNOWS.. NOT DR KING OR SNO..ONLY GOD KNOWS..."APPEARED" IS APPROPRIATE IN ANY SUICIDE WITH NO WITNESS.

  4. If he ingested poison was there any container with some residue found near the body or at home? normally something near the body will suggest that.

  5. FIRST OFF,I DID NOT LOOK UP THE WORD DEFAMATION WHEN I WROTE IT IN MY FIRST COMMENT I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IT MEANS (MAMA DID NOT RAISE NO FOOL)...PER YOUR REQUEST OF VISITING THE WORD DEFAMATION ..DEFAMATION IS A CATCH-ALL TERM FOR ANY STATEMENT THAT HURTS SOMEONE'S REPUTATION.I REVISITED DEFAMATION AND NOT DEFAMATORY BECAUSE BOTH WORDS CAN BE USED IN THE SAME CONTEXT.THE TITLE OF THIS ARTICLE SHOULD BE..MAN FOUND DEAD IN GROS ISLET "APPEARED" TO HAVE COMMITTED SUICIDE SINCE IN THE ARTICLE IT STATES THAT THE DEATH APPEARED TO BE SELF-INFLICTED.THAT IS WHERE DEFAMTION OF CHARACTER COMES INTO PLAY.AND YOU ARE RIGHT BY SAYING NO ONE KNOWS BUT APPEARED SHOULD BE USED FLUENT THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE ARTICLE FROM BEGINING TO ENDING.IF THE POLICE OR ANYONE KNEW THE TRUTH IT WOULD BE A QUICK OPEN AND CLOSE CASE BUT THEY ARE STILL INVESTIGATING FOR A REASON.

  6. It is defamation of character. My grandfather was killed that way. His drink was spiked. So the police can not rule it suicide. Someone could have spiked his drink. Thats leaving a bad name for him. We dont want people believing the man killed his self if he didnt. May your soul rest in perfect peace.....you will be missed by many.....

  7. If the police have already ajudged his death as suicide, why play a hypocritical role. Further investigation for what?

  8. "THERE IS NO EVIDENCE TO SUGGEST HE WAS INDUCED? WHAT EVIDENCE WOULD THAT BE? DRINKS CAN BE EASILY SPIKED.THERE WAS NO POISON FOUND AT THE VICTIMS HOUSE OR AROUND THE BODY."THE DEATH APPEARED?"..THE TITLE OF THE ARTICLE STATES THAT HE COMMITTED SUICIDE YET WHAT FOLLOWS STATES THAT THE DEATH APPEARED TO BE A SUICIDE.THE CASE IS RULED A SUICIDE BUT POLICE ARE STILL CARRYING OUT INVESTIGATIONS? DEFAMATION OF CHARACTER IS NOT SOMETHING TO PLAY AROUND WITH JUST BECAUSE THE VICTIM CAN'T SPEAK FOR HIS OR HERSELF.THIS GOES FOR ALL OTHER CASES RULED A SUICIDE.IN ST LUCIA,WHERE THE NORM IS TO BECOME SLOWLY A BLUE PRINT OF THE U.S.A AND OTHER FOREIGN COUNTRIES FOR COPY CAT CRIMES AND IMMERSING IN DRUGS FOR QUICK MONEY.WHO IS TO SAY THERE CAN'T BE FOUL PLAY BEHIND SOME SUICIDES.MAYBE TOO MUCH 48 HRS AND C.S.I ? REST IN PEACE ,YOU ALONE KNOW THE TRUTH.

    • Sapodilla, what statement in the article is defamatory? The hard evidence states he ingested poison so the death is suicidal in nature; no foul play, no natural death. Only he alone knows how he died, however you need to revisit the word "defamatory".

      • Merrick, to defame someone means to say false things about them to make them look bad. In that case, it would be appropriate to call the statements defamatory because the article makes the man look suicidal. That itself is abhorrent!

        • OK fine.... so you're saying the police, the autopsy, Dr. King and SNO are lying? OK, great. Call the station tomorrow with your evidence that the man didn't kill himself or ingest poison since as the report is false. After it is proven that he didn't ingest any poisonous substance, then file a suit.

          • Dear Mr Merrick , I agree with The Mister' s Post . You and Doctor King - Don't Know For Sure that he Committed Suicide . Example 1 : If I add Poison to your Drink without your knowledge - and u drank it ! That's not Suicide .Example 2 : If I poison your Food without your Knowledge - and U ate the Food ! That's Not Suicide . These two Examples are Called : Premeditated Homicide . How did U Mr Merrick and Doctor King and the Police Concluded that - There was No Foul Play ? U Sir as a new outlet Should be very care , When U use the Word Suicide in your Head Lines - because it is a VERY POWERFUL WORD . I rest my case .

          • LOL! In this day and age everyone is a legal expert, Merrick. I would not even entertain the legal clowns above..LOL..I wonder how it is defamatory to say that the man appeared to have committed suicide when the autopsy indicated that a poisonous substance was [email protected] the legal clowns above (sapodilla and the Mister please stick to your day job!)

    • Uhhh...How could the consumption be accidental? From the first sip, one would notice that the liquid is not juice or water, and a sip of the poisonous substance will not kill...so how could the consumption be accidental?

  9. The Devil is on a rampage. We need to put our trust in god people because we cannot fight the devil on our own. Ephesians 6:12 says we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world and against spiritual wickedness in high places. We need GOD to gain the victory.....
