Thomas Mortimer IV pleaded guilty to fatally stabbing, slashing and hitting his wife, mother-in-law and two children over a bounced cheque, the Associated Press reported.
The accused who is a Massachusetts resident was sentenced to life in prison without parole after he confessed to the first-degree murder by deliberate meditation, extreme atrocity and cruelty.
Prosecutors told the court that Mortimer killed his wife Laura Stone Mortimer, mother-in-law Ellen Stone, and their two children Charlotte and Thomas Mortimer aged 2 and 4 after became enraged over a bounced cheque he sent to the Inland Revenue Department.
It is understood that the 4-yr-old child witnessed the brutal killings of his family members before he died on June 14 to 15 in 2010.
Mortimer’s wife was stabbed multiple times, while his children’s throats were slashed.
