The Saint Lucia National Trust (SLNT), in collaboration with the Vieux-Fort South Constituency Council will be hosting an event dubbed “Propose for a Cause: Conservation” at Independence Square, Vieux-Fort on WED to be observed on Sunday, June 5, 2016. The event will showcase the environmentally themed movie, “Lorax” and the public will get an opportunity to learn more about the work of the Saint Lucia National Trust and how they can become actively engaged in conserving our island’s rich yet fragile resources.
Additionally, the public will be encouraged to purchase a certificate and make a pledge to one or all three of our causes:
- Beach Clean Up in June
- Tree Planting in July
- Beautification of Ma Koté Mangrove in August
World Environment Day is observed each year on 5th June to raise the awareness globally of the importance of a healthy environment. It shines the spotlight on environmental issues and promotes positive actions to promote environmental sustainability by individuals, communities and governments.
This year’s theme is “Join the race to make the world a better place.” According to Mr. Craig Henry, SLNT’s Programme Officer – South, “We hope that residents and businesses from Vieux-Fort and other communities across Saint Lucia will come out to support this special event. We are aware of the numerous events that compete for our time and resources, however, we run the risk of losing many of the natural resources we benefit from on a daily basis if we don’t participate in meaningful restorative activities”.
