PRESS RELEASE – Experienced Elite senior Boxer 69 kg Welterweight Lyndel “the Russian” Marcellin has been named captain of the St. Lucia Boxing team which flies out to Guyana this evening for the “Back to the future Caribbean Development Boxing Championships” jabbing off there tomorrow.
Marcellin, who has a record of 20 wins and 14 losses in his 34 bout amateur career, is a former multiple boxer of the year in St. Lucia and he will lead a six man contingent of Boxers to the championships.
The other senior boxers making the trip to Guyana this evening are the dreadlocked Arthur Langelier who will compete in a tough 75kg Middle weight Elite Division and Marvin Anthony an 81kg Elite Division Lightheavyweight.
Three young Boxers will also make the trip. Two Si Ira Simmons Secondary School Students 60 kg lightweight Junior Kareem Boyce and 64kg lightwelterweight youth boxer Nathan Ferrari. The other young boxer in the squad is 18 year old Tahj Browne who will be making his competitive debut in the ring. He will fight in the Youth 69 kg welterweight division.
Accompanying the boxers to Guyana will be coaches Conrad Fredericks and Jorge Gonzales Dominquez. ST.Lucia Boxing Association Second Vice President and PRO Brian Mc Donald who is the team manager and ST.Lucia Boxing Association President David “shakes” Christopher who is the head of delegation.
Christopher is expected to attend a special meeting of regional boxing presidents which will be held during the championships.
Host Country Guyana and 15 other countries are down to participate in the championships aimed at reviving top class amateur Boxing competition among the Caribbean islands.
