PRESS RELEASE – Three employees and one former employee of Saint Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) have received close to $16,000 in donations from staff and the electricity company.
The four were severely affected by the Christmas Eve Trough that passed over the country in 2013. One of the afflicted lost his son when the vehicle he was driving plunged into a precipice that formed after the Desruisseaux road collapsed.
During a small ceremony held recently at the Cul-de-Sac power plant, cheques of varying amounts were handed to the four affected individuals. The funds were raised by staff members who initiated a collection amongst themselves soon after the trough in addition to the assistance and support provided in the immediate aftermath of the severe weather.
It was a move applauded by Managing Director Trevor Louisy who ensured the company matched the funds raised by staff.
“It brings joy to my heart when I see staff taking on such an initiative and not waiting for the company to initiate, but rather augment or contribute to the effort. Hopefully these tokens can assist to continue the process of restoration to the lives of those affected,” he commented.
The hand-over took place on Wednesday May 14, 2014.
