Eighteen years of work experience at the Saint Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) separate LUCELEC’s two Employees of the First Quarter for 2013.
Terry Pologne of the Generation Department and Ed James from Transmission and Distribution are also divided by the number of accolades they have received from the company.
While Pologne, in his 20th year of employ has won a number of awards including the prestigious Employee of the Year, James, who only began working at LUCELEC two years ago, is receiving his first award.
The two men were named the LUCELEC Employees of the First Quarter during a small ceremony at the Cul-de-Sac plant on Monday, June 2, 2013. Each received a monetary prize, certificate and plaque.
In presenting the awards, Business Development Manager Victor Emmanuel called on the two recognized employees to continue setting an example for all LUCELEC staff, during what he described as “turbulent times” that required focus and responsible self-management of resources and time.
“We are in a period where unit sales are declining,” he says. “This is uncharacteristic of the electricity sector and has resulted in the need for belt-tightening. The time is now to encourage your peers to be more efficient, focusing on achieving their performance targets.”
Both LUCELEC employees believe their awards will serve as inspiration to others in their department. The Employee of the Quarter is nominated by supervisory staff. James was therefore grateful his hard work had been singled out by his supervisor, Antonius Haynes.
“The guys I work with were a little disgruntled for a while because no one in our department had been recognized like that for a while. My win will show if people keep working hard, they will achieve,” he says.
Pologne, who admitted he actively worked for the recognition he hadn’t received in a few years, was equally pleased for himself and those he works with on the LUCELEC engine room floor. His supervisor, Nathaniel Deterville, says while Pologne has always worked well, it was his leadership on a self-designed project that impressed him most during the first quarter of this year.
“Pologne is a steady worker who continues to improve on shortcomings. In addition, he goes the extra mile to ensure the department goes forward as evidenced by this project which he undertook quite quickly in three to four weeks, leading a team of workers to ensure the station was kept in order and very safe,” says Mr Deterville.
In addition to being named Employee of the Quarter, Pologne and James will now be eligible for the Employee of the Year award which is handed out at the annual Staff Appreciation Ceremony.
