LUCELEC will officially open its 17th annual Health and Safety Month on Friday, March 1, 2013 under the theme: “A Safe Workplace is no Accident.”
During the opening ceremony slated for 9 a.m. at the Cul-de-Sac Power Station, employees, contractors and invited guests will be addressed by Health and Safety Officer Priscilla Stanislas as well as LUCELEC Managing Director Trevor Louisy. The featured speaker is Dr Adrian Augier.
Dr Augier is a former chief economist and economic policy advisor who also served as secretary general to Saint Lucia’s National Economic Council. He is currently the managing director of Landmark Events, a winner of the Saint Lucia Chamber of Commerce 2008 Service Exporter of the Year and 2010 Entrepreneur of the Year awards.
Health and Safety Month activities will be held from March 1 – 31, 2013. They include practical sessions related to the LUCELEC workplace such as the importance of tree trimming and proper disposal of used oil as well as lectures on relationship building and financial health. Employees will also have the opportunity to take advantage of numerous health screenings for diabetes and hypertension as well as free eye testing.
In a bid to promote awareness of occupational health and safety best safe work practices employees will also compete in a safety quiz, and the very popular Health and Safety Walk will be held on Sunday, March 17, from 6 a.m.
LUCELEC aims every year to have zero recordable accidents defined as any incident that results in three or more lost work days. The activities planned for Health and Safety Month are designed to reach that goal. They are also in keeping with the company’s 4H philosophy of a workforce that is Happy, Healthy and Hard Working in Harmony.
