The Lucian Peoples Movement (LPM) will be delivering a petition signed by 70 inmates of the Bordelais Correctional Facility (BCF) who have been on remand for five or more years, to the government.

Political leader of the LPM Therold Prudent told St. Lucia News Online (SNO) today that his party received a letter along with the petition this week, which is seeking the LPM’s help in highlighting this issue.

Prudent said he will deliver the letter on Thursday, October 8, 2015, to Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony. This is the date set aside for the LPM’s planned protest march which is scheduled to take place in Castries.

The LPM march was organised to protest the government’s poor response to the struggling judicial system, high unemployment; especially among youths, and high incidence of serious crimes, among others.

“We know that it is a violation of human rights to have someone on remand for that long and not being able to offer closure to the victims, which is more important is also a major concern,” he explained.

Prudent also reiterated that the LPM will be delivering résumés of those affected by unemployment during the march. The LPM team will hand deliver these résumés to the prime minister himself.

While Prudent could not state how many persons are confirmed for the protest march, he said he is optimistic that it will attract persons from all walks of life and political background.

The march will commence at 4:00 p.m. at the Vigie Playfield and will make a short stop at the Office of the Prime Minister, before ending at the Derek Walcott Square for a public meeting.

  1. @ Jim Jones i am lost here; what do you mean by correspondence that is "unvetted" or "unsanctioned?" Is this a new requirement for correspondence? Persons at Bordelaise are not restricted from writing letters or signing documents brought to their attention. If you are referring to what i think you are, sorry to say but you are still wrong. The fact that correspondence can go in and out of Bordelaise means that it is sanctioned or legal.

  2. LPM. IF YOU GUYS ARE SERIOUS ABOUT THE SECURITY OF THE STATE, INTERNAL AFFAIRS, WHY WOULD YOU ALL ENTERTAIN A SO CALLED PETITION THAT IS NOT SANCTIONED, A LETTER OR PETITION THAT WAS NOT VETTED BY OFFICIALS OF BORDELAIS AND WANTS TO GO AND MAKE IT A PUBLIC DOCUMENT. SO WHEN AND IF U GET IN GOVERNMENT, IT IS STILL OK FOR UNSANCTIONED OR UN VETTED CORRESPONDENCE PUT SENT TO UR OPPOSING POLITICAL PARTIES? AND ITS OK? RIGHT?

    • Stop being a jackass. What the lpm is doing there is symbolic. I doubt they expect Kenny to provide jobs for eveeyone. Learn to read before you criticize. All they are doing is highlighting the problem of unemployment, you idiot.

      • what the lpm is doing is a great innitiative but learn to understand while you read before you criticize people comments you bigger jackass the point in case you missed it is what am saying is you cant just take resumes of people and just bring it and hand it to the prime minister there is better ways in dealing and handling that, you think if lpm brings a box or a file of resumes of people who need employment the primeminister is actually going to out stretch his hand and accept it and in case you missed it again the report said the lpm team will HAND DELIVER ,HAND DELIVER those resumes to the pm himself in person
