LPM leader releases statement on latest homicide
LPM leader Therold Prudent
LPM leader Therold Prudent

It is very obvious this morning , that while the government of Saint Lucia was engaged in a futile exercise of self praise, our nation was once again subjected to a violent wave of criminal activities.

The senseless murder of Chereece Benoit in the prime of her youth is both alarming and sickening. It has also driven home the need for us to have an open and honest conversation of what’s happening in the country.

As a nation , we can no longer turn a blind eye to the evil that has permeated throughout our Saint Lucian society. The time to speak with one voice is here. The government of Saint Lucia must bring this situation under immediate control.

  1. Alas, political bias has distorted the memories of those sworn to hate Labour forever! While in opposition, the record will certainly show, the then opposition (SLP) made several offers, both inside and outside of the House of Assembly, to contribute to a bipartisan approach to crime fighting. They were spurned, with maximum scorn, every time! Candid commentary from the perspective of the police would reveal that while meaningful support of the RSLPF ebbed between 2006 and 2011, apart from subtle and not-so-subtle inducement by the political directorate to throw legal caution to the wind, there has been a relative quantum leap in the quantity and quality of the provision of the tools and training that the police have long required.
The so-important forensic lab was largely ignored by the UWP, no doubt because it was commenced by the SLP - leaving the police to grope in the dark, so to speak, resorting to the stone-age approaches that have proved embarrassing recently (granted the USA, the drone-murdering country is completely hypocritical on this issue of extra-judicial killing)!

  2. I think persons, sounds like Labor operatives are taking issues with Mr. Prudent comments. There is nothing wrong with the statements. He was just highlighting the fact that while the SLP was preparing for their if you ask me childish meeting,(release the tape of the Soufriere bridge opening) all these gruesome crimes are happening. Lacobinere bash out at guy Mayers claiming he had no answer to crime what's the verdict now from him. It goes to show him and others that crime is every bodies business not only when it hits home. St. Lucians need to put their party colors aside and lets march against crime in our country. Bring back operation rescue St. Lucia ,and operation restore confidence \, we have lost our legal right to live fearlessly by the criminals. Kenny call a week of prayers for our nation so all churches AND CITIZENS CAN PARTICIPATE. THE BIBLE SAY IF MY PEOPLE SHALL TURN AWAY FROM THEIR WICKED WAYS I SHALL HEAL THEIR LAND.

  3. The only reason crime in st lucia is tolerated is because the general populous say unless it does not come knocking on my door its not my business and those criminal and they families benefit from crime

  4. If I remember very well , the SLP said some pretty ridiculous and ugly things when they were in opposition. We need to go back and check some of the way they turned every murder into politics. We have to stop the hypocrisy.
I think the LPM said it best. If the government cannot control crime in any country, who can ???
What's the use of having a government if criminals can do as they well please. Yes, Kenny cannot stop all murders , but there a lot if things that can be done to control the joy ride killings that are occurring in the country .

  6. I keep reading about child being murdered while the SLP meeting was taking place. And i found myself goin back to read the article again, just to make sure that i hadnt read it incorrectly ythe first time. It was said that she was killed between 9am and 1pm. Does those political meetings usually begin around 7pm?? So i just could comprehend wat some of ur reader were saying, trying to connect the killing to the meeting, which took place several hours later. Infact the meeting should hv been well underway at the time that the child's body was discovered...

to come together and rally against crime. We do not
Know where they will strike next be more on guard for
Yourselves and your neighbour.Always have your cell phones
equipped with emergency numbers an as one touch dial.We need to help
and Educate each other on the values of being (prepared for anything),st.lucia is an island in termoil.
She cries for the innocent but her crys are not heard.
I am sad,I am shaken,I am weary of her wailing.
Let us come together as one nation and rally against crime.
    Together we must endure.

  8. I know he should not blame the Government, but a few years ago this was exactly what the present Government was doing when all the gang shooting took place. Even when the Prime Minister made the statement about the USA, he was blaming the UWP (Stephenson King). We have to start thinking and acting as one people and in the interest of our lovely nation St. Lucia. This divide I blame of the political parties.

  9. Ever noticed that PrudentĀ“s comments are never commented seriously or attract any sought of discussion. We listen to him cause we have no choice, its on news. But that guy is a total idiot

  10. This statement is ill-timed and comes across as callous, dismissive, hasty, self-serving, and inhumanely opportunistic. There will be time to discuss the political implications, social implications, etc.,of this senseless crime, but at this point would it not have been far more sensitive and genuine to express your sympathy, to show an outpouring of sorrow and grief that this untimely heinous loss creates? In very poor taste LPM. You are looking more and more like those you claim to decry. I'm beginning to think that your politics is different in only one way - yours reeks of inexperience. Maybe better the evil we know than the evil that we do not know.

    • This sounds like a post from the Press Secretary post. Guess commenting under news articles falls under the purview of that office, Granted I am in total agreement. Then again, everything in St Lucia is politicized

  11. Seriously man? Politics when people are helpless??? Get a life in fact go bury yourself You will never win an election!

  12. I disagree. I think that this a timely message. The murder has nothing to do with the rally but I think the sentiments are important. The government seem to be more interested in opposing the opposition than tackling the real issues of the country like crime. There has been a marked increase in crime on island and to date the government has told me more about Chastenet than how they are going to seriously tackle crime. I thin its time for a National dialogue on crime which includes government and opposition, private sector, religious and youth groups. Its time for the government to govern and stop acting like they in opposition.

  13. The government of St.Lucia can't do anything about the crime--when are we going to realise that it;s not about a person?? This island needs Jesus.....heal our nation Lord and help our leaders turn to righteousness!!

  14. I support the LPM statement totally. It's becuase we allow our government to hide behind the excuse of "no politics" that nothing is done.We are going to cry for a few days and play sad and nothing will come out of it. I am so happy with what the LPM has said.
