A man, who was convicted for drug possession in 2011 and failed to complete his fine, was finally caught this week.

Elias Edwin, also known as Ashka, of Sarrot, was convicted for the possession of 20 pounds of cannabis and possession with intent to supply in 2011 after he was busted in Oleon, Dennery.

He was ordered to pay $30,000 but owed a balance of $27,000.

He was finally captured by the Richfond/Dennery police on August 18, 2014 in Sarrot.

Edwin will be taken to Bordelaise Correctional Facility where he will serve two years in prison.

  3. They should lock their ass up and throw away the key....these are the same people who get our younger generation involved in a life of crime...what if we knew that this man was encouraging our son or daughter to get into the habit of doing the same thing he does.....society is poisoned with these criminals and we fail to realize that...it's time they give them a punishment that will send a strong message to the would be criminals out there...this is a slap on the shaking risk as far as I am concerned....he should rot in prison...anyway they will bool his ass enough....for the 27 thousand he didn't pay....You have all that weed and you do not have money to pay?? They never think they will be caught.

  4. "TheEnigma" 20lbs of weed is 100,000ec? You must be on crack, this isnt Bim brother it's St Lucia. Even if the weed goes to Martinique, transportation cost ect.

  5. I say he got off easy. $30000 for 20 lbs? The street value is like $100,000!

He enjoyed his freedom for 3 years and the country is out $27000. The government can't legally resell this confiscated weed. They can only destroy it or some dirty cop get it for his pocket - still doesn't go back to tax payers.

Now he has to spend 2 years in prison. This means the country will have to spend extra money to keep him in prison under humane conditions including feeding, housing, clothing, keeping him clean and healthy and giving him recreation & leisure facilities. Don't even mention the cost criminal court proceedings!

Drugs dealers know the risk of the business - death, jail, lost of property and lost of loved ones and relationships. Don't feel sorry for them when they get caught. He'll be out in one year and continue dealing. Jail time and fines are a small price for them because the payoff is a lot higher. If I wasn't so terrified of being locked up or shot in front of my family, I would deal drugs.

I think they should have ceased his property also then throw him in jail to balance off the lost of the fine and the cost of jailing him.

He got off easy and he knows it because he beat the system for 3 long years.

  6. Ahhh, sorry Ashka 🙁 The legal system sucks in Lucia. My son-in-law was murdered in 2010, his killers were out in less than 6 months. Ashka gets caught with 20 lbs of weed and gets 2 yrs. No gun with 20 lbs of weed = 2 yrs. Makes no sense.

  7. People is the natraul plant we call weed that leads to the guns and most of the crimes, we need to open our eyes and don't look at things that close. Believe or not drugs is the cause of most crimes

  8. Whilst I understand the sentiments shared by many persons concerning the inconsistancies as it relates to sentencing for various offences,it must be understood that when the court is sentencing an individual for an offence most time it takes into consideration that persons prior convictions. Obviousely if the person has no previous convictions and this is his first offence his sentence will be less severe than somene with previous conviction.

In the case of Mr. Ashka here, he is no saint and have over the years gathered a long criminal record which include several stints in prison. He was also arrested and spent several years on remand in connection with the murder of ironman where he was buried with a pig. Ashka and his friends are unsavoury characters ( some of them were arrested in sarrot last year with a number of high powered fireams) and it won't surprise me one bit if he and his crew were responsible for a few of our unsolved murders along with robberies.

  9. yes I agree u do the crime u serve the time. yes it is an offence but don't tell me the law is being bended for some plp while some have to face the hashness of some so call magistrates and judges in this country. in that same sarrot area some big time notorius guys who have had multiple wrong doings with the law were arrested with weapons not even the police force had ever seen. yes they were arrested and bail the following day by police officers. that means they were only bailed 500 or 1000 dollars, is that fair. and to make I worst they had just come from prison three weeks prior to that incident.

  13. Why Chase After someone for possession of weed, a naturally growing plant. It's like putting someone in jail for picking a fruit, also a naturally growing plant, placed on the earth by God. Why is everyone making a fuss over weed; because it is more useful than harmful. Why do all this when you will soon decriminalize it? And they complain jail eh have no space its too crowded. There are rapists and murderers roaming the streets what is our definition of a criminal? Give the man some community work. People stay in jail for years before they even get a court case it's ridiculous. And these people when they finally get out of Jail cause more problems in society because of their frustration and anger, jail has not helped them in any way shape or form. There are people who deserve to be in jail but you should know the difference. These people with power it's either they're too lackadaisical or too greedy money hungry assholes. And they are the ones quick to ask for a raise while they sit their asses eating tax payers money. I think the leaders of our country need to educate themselves... Well all Saint Lucians for that matter. It feels like this is the most uneducated and arrogant place on the planet sometimes

  14. What does it matter if is gun or weed. It ia illegal! Your penalty was pay the monies or go to jail. You chose not to pay so you go to jail. He had a choice and you made it. The end!

We need to stop defending these criminals you think he only dealt in weed, weed and guns aint far apart. You eventually get a gun to protect your weed.

We complain about crime but then choose which are more important to go jail for. All crime is crime
